Artifact : Instructional Technology Grant Proposal
Reflection :
The Technology Integration Grant was created in ITEC 7445 Multimedia and Web Design. This artifact was an evaluation of the use of emerging technologies with teachers and administrators to engage in professional development using innovative methods in an inhouse program called the Allegory. The Allegory was designed to improve instruction and student achievement by exposing teachers and administrators to emerging technologies : drones, 3f printing, 3d pens, and Breakout Edu. In this artifact, I evaluated the creation of the Allegory to author a grant that included peer review research, instructional objectives and pricing.
I researched and recommended the use of the above mentioned technologies with teachers and administrators to engage them in innovative professional learning. The recommendation and implementation of the policies to support this emerging technology was supported in the system’s shared vision. Along with recommendations and policies, I also developed a budget for funding this new emerging technology.
While writing this proposal, I learned a lot about bringing new technologies into the classroom. Authoring the grant was one step, but the purchase order process, securing permission from administration, ensuring the devices will work on our network, and demonstrating the transition from concept to classroom proved very difficult step. Many of these items had to be researched and reviewed before the recommendation is made to leadership. Policies and procedures need to be review or determined along with strategies for implementing a new device. The process to create this artifact left me with a deeper understanding of the process that brings about new technologies and initiatives to classrooms.
The Technology Integration Grant Artifact has greatly influenced my instructional technology and teaching experience. This process helped me become more cognizant of the steps needed to research and recommend new emerging technologies for classrooms, schools and school systems. Prior to this project, technology implementation was a relevant area of weakness. This experience has increased my understanding of how emerging technologies are implemented.
The impact of this artifact can be seen in the increase in the number of grant proposal that our teachers have been writing. Teachers and administrators are becoming increasingly excited about the opportunities that technology can provide to their students. Our school system has a heavy focus on student engagement. As instructional technology is implemented into the schools, we are already seeing higher levels of engagement which is leading to better performance on assessments.
